Language : An option

Following up from where I left in the just previous blog, let me continue my rant against compulsive roting of languages in Indian schools. Freaking piece of poop, I wonder whom did it help.

Other than editors, who seem to be aplenty, I dont see a reason - why is grammatical correctness so important in schools. Even if my grammar score wasnt top notch in school, somewhere through the Indian system - where English is more often the conversational educational language.. I think I would have improved my grammar. And, I think thats what has really happened.

For nuts sake, I dont remember what is a proposition. And, some shit on article, subject, predicate. Well, really, nuts' sake. It hasnt helped me a bit. I would have been way happier had I spent the same time reading stuff which I loved to read. And, if these reading matter were composed by the folks whose grammar was in place. Automatically, my grammar wiring in the brain would've got fixed.

Lets not even talk about Hindi or any other vernacular language. I'm absolutely secular in this regard. I hated learning Sanskrit Grammar too. And, thankfully, CBSE provided me a respite - and saved the day - I didnt have to learn Kannada grammar. Learnt it for fun, because it was an extra hour at school for a subject which was not graded! So, you get a frivolous teacher. And a noisy classroom! And, for sure, it helps me in carrying out my daily life - bus etc etc. ( oops, when did i last travel in a bus in bangalore!)

But anyway, to hell with the emphasis on 'propaah' language in schools. Thats not the way.

....no dark sarcasm in the classroom....Teacher! Leave the kids alone!!
