Speaking Written Language & Writing Spoken Language

If you've observed different people - the way they speak & write, there seems to be a pattern. Some people speak written English.. others try to write spoken English.

The latter is very common in official mails. Infact, I've almost come to the conclusion that emails and grammar dont go hand in hand. Lets not even get into email & the emotional interpretation. Egos enraged, wars have been waged for sure..for nuts.

But, lets take a minute and think about the former. Which is.. speaking a language the way you write it or read it - eg. in a textbook. ( not Times of India!jeez - thats spoken english being written. So you'll end up speaking well if you are of my type. But, I hate TOI and love the Hindu). And, I hope this is common,.. pray god, that its not some creepy syndrome which I realized at the tick of 27...lest I veer to the conclusion - I'm of this type. Paranoids survive. And I will ;).

While this may not be too stark when I converse in English, its kind of on my face ..when I switch to Hindi. 10 years of the budding brain was roting the MBD guide non-sense & vyaakaran..in pursuit of the rankings..seems to have taken some toll. Or rather, hard wired some Hindi connections, which are refusing to turn colloquial...in my conversation. So much so, that I prefer to speak in English, in a gang of Hindi speakers. Now, that is 'thoda' embarassing, to say the least.

Have any one of you felt so?
